Snapcheck.org allows Snapchat users to discover if their phone number was among those breached

January 2, 2014 — WPF Executive Director Pam Dixon was a guest on CBS KNX 1070 in Los Angeles this morning talking about the Snapchat data breach, the Target data breach, and what to do to prevent privacy snafus.

Dixon’s tips include:

  • Use a password app to keep track of passwords.
  • Always use different usernames and passwords — a common error is to rotate one password or username, or close variants of it.
  • If you use a debit card, run transactions through as credit.
  • If you are a Snapchat user, you can check Snapcheck.org to see if your phone number was breached. If you find yourself on the list, change your username and password immediately, and ensure you do not use the same username/password combination again.
