WPF presenting at UN World Data Forum High-Level Plenary
WPF’s Executive Director Pam Dixon will be presenting at a High-Level Plenary Session at the UN World Data Forum Tuesday, 5 October on a panel focused on Trust in Data: balancing quality, privacy and transparency.
The matter of trust is at the heart of any information system and it has long been a preoccupation of the data community. As the volume and use of data have multiplied, the issue has appeared in different forms across the data ecosystem and resulted in different perspectives in the data value chain. While trust in data might be considered elusive, there are attempts to measure it and use different frameworks to better manage it. In this session, the issue is explored through three key attributes; quality, privacy protection and transparency. Different points of views are used to investigate whether a common approach based on shared principles can be turned into an actionable agenda on trust in data for the entire data community.
The UN World Data Forum 2021 will be hosted by the Federal Statistical Office of Switzerland in a hybrid format from 3 to 6 October 2021 in Bern. The World Data Forum brings together data and statistical experts and users from governments, civil society, the private sector, donor and philanthropic bodies, international and regional agencies, the geospatial community, the media, academia and professional bodies. Data experts and users gather to spur data innovation, mobilize high-level political and financial support for data, and build a pathway to better data for sustainable development.
The High-level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity-Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLG-PCCB) leads the organization of the UN World Data Forum, under the guidance of the United Nations Statistical Commission and in close consultation with Member States, international partners and other stakeholders. The Statistics Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs supports the organization of the Forum in its role as Secretariat of the Commission and the HLG-PCCB.
